10 Tips From My Little Dude to Make Your Monday Awesome

I don’t know about you but there were times in my career when I was surrounded by people with the Monday blues. There is something about the way we are socialized that we are surrounded with celebrating weekends and dragging our heels and resenting Mondays.

As my son, now almost 8, entered public school I started to notice that he had learned to say “Oh nooooo, Its Monday. I don’t want to go to school”. I want him to love Mondays AND Fridays. Each brings their own experiences, learnings, journey, frustrations and joys. In an effort to change the learned pattern I asked him to come up with “10 Tips from The Little Dude To Make Your Monday Awesome”. Here they are:

  1. Lay in a bed a little bit longer and smile about all the good things that happened on the weekend.  Take another five minutes and think about all the good things you want to happen this week.
  2. Pet your dog or your cat.
  3. Sing. Sing loud like no one is listening. Sing while you’re brushing your teeth. It’s funny.
  4. Go to your room, close the door, take off your jammies and do a silly naked dance. That will definitely make you laugh.
  5. Make sure you did your homework before you start your week. It feels good to start your day with everything already done.
  6. Eat a healthy breakfast. Don’t ever skip breakfast.
  7. Plan to “fill someone’s bucket”. There is nothing better than surprising someone with something nice.  Give them a gift, write them a thank you note, share your lunch.
  8. Pick a random word from the dictionary that you don’t already know and find ways to use it all week.
  9. If you’re feeling a little down, ask your Mom to remind you why you’re awesome. That always makes you feel good.
  10. Laugh. My mom taught me that if you start to fake laugh, you eventually really start to laugh. Its good  exercise and hilarious to do. Piece of advice though, do this with someone else. Feels strange to do alone.
